A Tune For Christmas

Two days before Christmas and I can't think anything else but a classic Christmas tune, played by great jazz musicians.

In the 1988 movie “Scrooged” starring Bill Murray, Miles Davis, the inventor of cool, plays his trumpet as the leader of street musicians [Larry Carlton: guitar, David Sanborn: alto saxophone & Paul Shaffer: keyboard], performing this smooth electro-jazz version of “We Three Kings of Orient Are” which sounds very much “of its day,” while still managing to present a fresh take on an old classic.

"We Three Kings of Orient Are" was written in 1857 by Reverend John Henry Hopkins, Jr. An instructor of church music at the Episcopal General Theological Seminary in New York City, Hopkins composed the carol as part of an elaborate nativity drama he'd created for the seminary.
