Monday’s Song : I Wanna Be Your Man
I don’t know why I chose this one to be the first of
the week, while John Lennon was dismissive of the song in 1980, saying:“It was a throwaway. The only two versions of
the song were Ringo and the Rolling Stones. That shows how much importance we
put on it: We weren't going to give them anything great, right?”
Here are the two versions of the song:
After the savage rendition of the Lennon-McCartney
song, complete with slide guitar and a bass that sounded like its amplifier was
cranked up to 12, the Rolling Stones were ready to take the next step.
The Rolling Stones is the debut EP released by The
Rolling Stones on 17th [other say it was the 10th] of January 1964. It was
released both to capitalise on their first Top 20 hit "I Wanna Be Your Man"
and to test the commercial appeal of the band before their UK label Decca
Records would commit to letting them record an album. The Rolling Stones
includes four songs recorded at two separate sessions in August and November
1963.The Rolling Stones features R&B covers of some of the band's favourite
artists, and some recent American hits. Despite the rawness of the production,
the EP reached no. 1 in the UK EP charts in February 1964, having entered the
chart the week after its release.
