Almost three months have passed since that day in August, when this blog came to life. The days have gone so fast, but I wonder if time is on my side.
These last words made me decide to write about “Time is on my side”, one of my all-time favorite Rolling Stones song.
A lot of people believe that it’s another song written by Jagger/Richards, as it suits perfectly with the style of their other ballads. The truth is that the famous band released it in 1964, a year after the first recording by Jazz trombonist Kai Winding and his orchestra.
Irma Thomas was the second artist who recorded a R&B version of the song at the start of 1964, with additional lyrics by Jimmy Norman of The Coasters
And then it was the time for the Rolling Stones, who record and release it in UK & US and made it famous.
I said about the performers but I forgot to say who the songwriter was. Jerry Ragovoy [1930-2011] an American songwriter and record producer, wrote the song under the pseudonym of Norman Meade. I think that Ragovoy deserves a special reference in a future post, as he is the one who wrote a lot more hits, like Janis Joplin’s classic “Piece of My Heart” as well as “Try (Just a Little Bit Harder)”, “Cry Baby”, “Get it While You Can” and “My Baby”.
For the record and as Wikipedia refers : "Time Is on My Side has since been covered by artists such as Indexi, Michael Bolton, Cat Power, Hattie Littles, Blondie, Wilson Pickett, Brian Poole and the Tremeloes, the O'Jays, the Pretty Things, Lorraine Ellison, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Kim Wilson, Tracy Nelson, Patti Smith, Andrés Calamaro (for his "El Salmón", a CD with 103 songs), and the Moody Blues (in 1965 and on the 1985 re-release of The Magnificent Moodies)”.
