Africa is calling!!
Today I invite you to cross the Mediterranean with me, for a musical journey to the sounds of Africa.
African Voices [Manteca 2000]
“Most of us won’t understand a word of the songs, but this is an aural adventure. Forget the language barriers and listen to these voices as instruments; interplaying with ringing guitars, busy polyrhythms, saxes, traditional instruments and hi-tech keyboards.
Be prepared to be enchanted, moved, amused and occasionally stunned by the variety and audacity of these voices of Africa singing solo, a cappella, duets, and group harmonies.” [liner notes taken from African Voices CD]
Ambiances du Sahara - Desert Blues
“Desert Blues” gives an overview of the good and the merely interesting African artists, a taste of known and the unknown, of the moment it was created. If you like African music, you may find it magical and if you are intriguing by the idea of "African music" but don't know where to start, you may find the starting point.
It is amongst the best albums in my collection, but it’s the useless information of the day.
If you want to have a taste, check for "music" and "voices".
Enjoy!!
