"Sugar Shack", a song by Jimmy Gilmer & the Fireballs, recorded in 1963, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 where it spent five weeks [until November 9, 1963] and ended up being Billboard's number 1 song of 1963.
The unusual and distinctive organ part was played by Norman Petty on a Hammond Solovox, Model J. Today the original instrument is on display at the Norman Petty Studios, where the song was recorded.
